Daydreams of Pullitzers

A friend asked me yesterday if I'd read the column on the back page of our weekly entertainment section of the newspaper. No. I had not. Remember about my mom? The fever and stuff? Anyway, I know there's a woman's picture and she writes something about Missoula and something something. I don't read her. Apparently it said last Thursday that she's not going to write any more for personal reasons. And apparently there was another article in which the editor of the section asked for submissions/cover letters/resumes to take the woman's place. And apparently I had a mild anxiety attack. Do you remember not very long my dream job was to be a syndicated columnist? Yes, I did say that.

I'm in the process now of composing a cover letter and pulling together some writing samples. And you can help. If you've read anything here that stuck in your mind will you tell me what it was? I'm thinking I might pull out a couple entries as samples, in addition to telling the editor of this site. What do you think?

I think it is a superb idea. I would suggest a combo of Mommy/funny, Topic oriented post, intellectual opinion piece. The many facets of Mignon.

Awesome opportunity. Go, Mignon!

My favorite post of yours is the one about the party in high school, with the shorts. So, so good. The one about sleeping in the airport on Christmas Eve was good, too. You have a wealth of wonderful material to choose from.

You go, girl!

The airport story sticks out as my personal fave. And I liked the story you posted from your college days about Lush, too.

Oh yes my friend. This is YOUR job. Ok...loved the one about the friend in college and her awful Mum. Also the friend who just stopped being your friend, for no apparent reason. Even successful but plain people. Will keep thinking. Madeleine's little friend and the conundrum you found yourself in about his situation at home. Your Oscars entry might be useful. All of them.
Oh, Mignon, good luck.
Yes, airport and party in high school / hot tub.

How exciting!! I love your memories. I think lots of people would love to read about things like that. In combo with living in Montana, being a SAHM and stuff. You have a very particular voice that will shine through. I would love to help you. I can edit and read over anything you need me to. You know I am a professional writer (13 years experience, worked for a magazine, sold to Family Fun, write and publish newsletters for companies....)

Thanks for the kind words y'all. I sent the cover letter and writing samples last night. I included the piece about my shorts, the Oscar wrap-up (good idea PD), a modified deal about my visit to the radiologist and the thing about my grampa.

I need to finish my resume and submit it as well today. I indicated in my e-mail that this may not be as relevant considering it's full of engineering jobs and SAHM stuff.

My mom called last night all atwitter after reading this post. She convinced me I won't get too disappointed if it doesn't work out because I'm a busy girl, but that the fact that the opportunity presented itsself was a wonderful omen regardless.

Crossing my fingers!

I have not read anything here that sas stuck in my mind. That's because this is my first time here. I looked over a few posts, though, and I think you should do well if you get it. I hope you do.
Good luck. :)

Yes, yes yes! Go for it. I would send samples from the post about the boy whose parents are too busy for him, something from yout posts about cabin fever and winter in Montana and perhaps to showcase your political side, not to mention Madeleine's birthday post and the jogger hater post. You have a lot of great material to choose from. I can't wait to hear what happens!
